The Flash will be on hiatus until the fall, but that doesn’t mean fans will be waiting months for news of what’s to come in the fifth season. It has already been announced that one key character will have a lot more to do when the show returns. Danielle Nicolet will be a series regular for Season 5 when The Flash is back on the airwaves in the fall. Cecile certainly isn’t going anywhere!
Danielle Nicolet plays Central City district attorney Cecile Horton. She made her Flash debut in a pair of episodes at the end of Season 1, then disappeared for all of Season 2. She returned as a recurring character in Season 3 and saw her involvement increase during Season 4. Nicolet has appeared in a grand total of 20 episodes so far. If she appears in every episode of Season 5, she’ll more than double her number of episodes.
All things considered, Danielle Nicolet’s promotion (as reported by Deadline) to regular status isn’t all that shocking. Cecile was a major character in the fourth season, especially the latter half as Team Flash had to deal with Barry’s incarceration and Cecile’s pregnancy took some unexpected twists and turns. Her legal contributions to Team Flash more or less came to an end after Barry was exonerated with a little help from Ralph Dibny, but she was still a big part of the plot once she began developing pregnancy-related superpowers. As if she didn’t already have enough to worry about!
Fortunately, Cecile dealt with her pregnancy complications like a champ, and she spent most of the Season 4 finale helping to save the day while actively in labor. She may not wear a mask or fight crime on the streets, but I’d say using her powers while undergoing contractions as a supervillain is on the verge of wiping the minds of the population of the planet makes her a superhero in her own right. Way to go, Cecile!
Cecile did ultimately give birth to a healthy baby girl, and Team Flash was all set to celebrate baby Jenna’s birth at the Allen house at the end of the finale… until Nora West-Allen showed up to drop the bombshell that she’s Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future. Nora’s arrival likely means Team Flash will be in an all-hands-on-deck situation in Season 5, and Cecile could have her hands full more with more than an infant.
Danielle Nicolet recently spoke about how more crossovers between the Arrow-verse shows are in store for Season 5 and revealed that she and Jessica Parker Kennedy, who plays Nora, may be featured in those crossovers. Maybe Emily Bett Rickards will get her wish for an Arrow episode all about the female characters! We’ll have to wait and see.
